FREE COMMUNITY EVENT all day Saturday, September 24
Gather with us to celebrate the oldest brick home in St. Louis County and the community’s part in the restoration of Crestwood’s historic treasure opened to the public 50 years ago.
September 23, 2016, Friday 5~8 pm – Sappington Wedding Reception
Friday, 5:00pm to 8:00 pm, Fundraising cocktail party, recreating 1808 bridal party of Thomas and Mary Ann Sappington at The Barn restaurant. Live music from Booneslick Strings.
$30 at the door, R.S.V.P. requested; call 314-822-8171.
Fifty years after Sappington House’s original restoration, repairs must be made to preserve its historical integrity, thus proceeds from this reception, including silent auction, will support its ongoing maintenance.

~ All day; Mystery Mural of 12-year-old daughter Lucinda Sappington, coupons given to children under 12 for free coloring books soon-to-be-released
~ 12 noon; Re-enactment of Thomas and Mary Ann Kinkead Sappington’s wedding ceremony. Kurt and Gracie and the Webster Groves High History Club will participate. Wedding cake for all guests!
~ 1 pm; Canoeist Perry Whitaker from the Alpine Shop
~ 1 pm; Apple bobbing
~ All day; Sappington family’s gigantic quilt on display in library
~ Throughout the day, times vary; Needleworker Ginny Branson, Rug hooker Nola Heidbreder, Amateur genealogist Deborah Ronzio in the Library of Americana and Decorative Arts
~ 2:30 pm; Sylvia Stoll will sing the National Anthem and Sons of the American Revolution, Spirit of Saint Louis and St. Charles chapters, color guard at Sappington family cemetery

~ 3:00 pm – The day of fun, activities and re-enactments starts to wrap up. All attending will appreciate having having Sappington House, alive, well and vibrant. It will continue as part of our Crestwood and South St Louis County area as a community resource and cultural center. Thank you all cor coming to partake of the festivities and to support the Sappington House.

Thomas Sappington and Mary Ann Kinkead tied the knot in front of a large crowd. It was a joyous occasion and a beautiful ceremony. See more wedding photos.
The day of festivities was rounded out by a ceremony at the Sappington family cemetery on Watson Road. The color guard was provided by the Sons of the American Revolution, Spirit of Saint Louis and St. Charles chapters, Sappington House historian, Enid Barnes, gave a short history of the Sappington family.
Sappington family decedents were an important part of the weekend of festivities and ceremony. Some traveled long distances to attend.
