The Life of Congressman Robert Smalls
Robert Sutton, historian emeritus for the National Park Service, will talk about Robert Smalls. Smalls was the first African American hero of the Civil War and later a U.S. Congressman. The program coincides with the park’s temporary exhibit on Robert Smalls that closes on October 30. Reservations required.

Mr. U.S. Grant – a one-person show
Dan Haughey is an actor, storyteller, and teaching artist from Illinois who will portray Grant in this short play. Reservations required.

Come celebrate the holidays with costumed interpreters and special events at the historic house and stables. Free and open to the public.

Grant and Twain – A One Act Play
Grant’s efforts to write a book about the war were hindered when he was diagnosed with terminal cancer. His friend Mark Twain was determined to help Grant publish the book despite obstacles and threats of betrayal close to home. Reservations required.

A Message at Midnight—A One-Act Play
It’s Christmas Eve of 1864 and as midnight approaches Grant arrives to meet with the President at the White House. This one-act play was commissioned by the park and features Fritz Klein as Lincoln, Pam Brown as Mary Todd Lincoln, and Dennis Rendleman as General Grant. Reservations required.
