100 + Vehicles, Motorcycles, Honor Guard Scheduled to Escort AVTT Vietnam Wall Replica to Lindbergh High School Campus
WHAT: The American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) Vietnam Traveling Wall arrives in St. Louis on Wednesday, June 12 and will be escorted on the final leg of its journey to Lindbergh High School where it will be on display through June 16. An honor guard and escort of vehicles are scheduled to accompany the Wall.
WHO: Show-Me Hero Salute, an organization of veterans, members of the Sunset Hills Historical Society and community volunteers are bringing the AVTT Traveling Wall to St Louis. Anyone who wants to join the escort bring the AVTT Traveling Wall to Lindbergh High School, should contact Rosann Shannon, 314-729-4837 to register, or get further details.
WHEN: Participants in the escort must be registered and should arrive by 2 p.m., Wednesday, June 12, at the Social Security Administration Office parking lot, 8800 Watson Road at the corner of Grant Road, Crestwood, Mo., 63119.
WHERE: The escort, which is not to be considered a parade, will travel west on Watson Road through the business district of Crestwood, entering Sunset Hills and turning south on Lindbergh Boulevard past the intersections with Gravois and Sappington Roads to the campus of Lindbergh High School, 5000 S. Lindbergh Blvd.
About the Escort: There will be a distinct and specific order of participants in the escort. The color guard of warriors will be at the front, then the units of “warriors” (veterans organizations) participating will follow. Next will be other participants. Then finally, four motorcycles will conclude the escort. Every branch of the service will be represented in the units participating. The intent of the escort and the presence of the AVTT Traveling Vietnam Wall is to respect, honor and remember our fallen soldiers. Bystanders along the escort route are invited to carry flags and acknowledge the escort as it passes by.
